I think you've got things mixed up, Boot Camp allows you to run Windows pure and simple, no OS X involved or anything, and with full hardware capabilities, so performance should be on par with other similar hardware. You might be thinking of virtualizing Windows through either Parallels or VMWare Fusion. You can use Boot Camp in combination with either of these programs, say if you just need Windows on occasion or just to run a single program frequently. I game in Windows 8.1 on my MacBook Pro with Boot Camp just about every day and have no problems with it. It is completely possible and well outlined below. If you have access to installation media or an ISO you can burn your own and simply install fresh windows directly onto the drive. A couple of things to consider: • you may have some driver issues and lose some usability in terms of gestures etc on the touchpad as they are built into OSX IIRC. I still dislike the metro style Apps menu (just give me a 'List' version instead of 'Icons' or 'Tiles' version) but after setting it to boot to desktop and Start opens Apps view, it's much less annoying and doesn't feel a whole lot different than 7, assuming I'm not forced into using a Metro app for something. This is a bit of a rant, so for those of you who actually gave me very helpful advice, I really appreciate it. However, I clearly wasn't specific enough in my question, sorry.
